Jennifer Tilly stunned fans when she revealed that she ‘got a piece’ of The Simpsons in her divorce settlement.
The actress, most known for her stint as Tiffany Valentine in the Chucky franchise, opened up about her love life in the latest episode of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where she teased her surprise fortune.
Amid a discussion about separations, the 66-year-old shed light on her split from Sam Simon, who co-created the hugely popular cartoon along with Matt Groening and James Brooks, before he died in 2015.
They tied the knot in 1984 but called time on their marriage in 1991 and, as part of their divorce settlement, she still received a percentage of the earnings from the series, which has been on our screens for 35 years.
Speaking to the camera, she said: ‘It takes a really long time to get over a divorce. My ex-husband was Sam Simon, who created The Simpsons.
‘I was married to him for seven years. We were together for about 10 years, and then when we got divorced, I got a piece of The Simpsons in the divorce settlement.

‘Nobody knew that The Simpsons was going to go on for trillions of years. Honestly, every day, I’m like, “Thank you Sam!”’
Tilly did not share details over the exact sum she is still awarded, but multiple US reports previously stated that she was ‘entitled to 30% of the net proceeds’ that her late ex’s estate ‘receives from Fox’.
RHOBH viewers couldn’t get enough of the financial bombshell and flocked to Reddit to unpack her comments.

‘Glad Jennifer told us that story, because u was wondering how she had that huge mansion in Bel Air,’ Kenyaj121 said. ‘I didn’t think she’d have all of that from her acting career. But Sinpsons money makes total sense [sic].’
Sun_set22 replied: ‘The more I learn about Jennifer, the more fascinated by her I am.’
As Gigigrahame added: ‘Jennifer is RICH RICH honey.’

Despite their split in the early 90s, the former couple remained close friends and Tilly actually introduced Simon at the Writers Guild of America when he was given an award to honor his humanitarian efforts in 2014.
She was also by his side during his cancer battle shortly before his death the following year.
Speaking on the Originals podcast in 2021, she said: ‘When I met him, I was just starting out. In fact, I think I got my first movie when I was dating Sam.
‘I tried to stop him from doing The Simpsons because I thought he was so talented, had so much potential and James Brooks was his mentor – he thought James Brooks was a genius.

‘Sam really felt like everything James Brooks touched turned to gold, and The Simpsons was just a little one-minute bumper before it went to commercial. Matt Groening – at the time – was a really outsider artist.
‘Jim Brooks called him up and said, “I want to make a television series, a half-hour show, with The Simpsons and I want you to produce it. I tried to talk him out of it, I said, “Sam you’re so talented, don’t you want to do your own thing?”
‘Sam is obviously smarter than me, he goes, “No, I really want to do it. I want to go with this because Jim Brooks is so talented”.
‘The rest is history.’
‘Nobody knew that The Simpsons was going to go on for trillions of years,’ she added of her finances. ‘They accidentally gave him this crazy deal but they didn’t understand … Everything I do now is things I want to do.’
