Hugh Grant has joked about some of his previous girlfriends amid the bombshell from Liz Hurley that she’s no longer in contact with the actor.

Hugh, 64, and Liz, 59, were the ‘it’ couple of the 90s after the pair dated for over a decade from 1987 until 2000.

The pair had an amicable breakup and were close friends until a recent interview with Liz revealed that the pair no longer speak.

Now in an interview with former About A Boy co-star Nicholas Hoult, the actor made a slight dig at his former girlfriend as he spoke generally about the models he dated.

The actors were discussing filming on set and Hugh commented: ‘The older I get, as the years roll by with filming, keeping everyone calm is 90% of the battle, particularly actors I think. Just keep them calm, keep them loose.

‘I’ve had a lot of high-maintenance girlfriends in the past, who used to get photographed by very famous fashion photographers.

‘And you notice the common denominator in the really famous fashion photographers was how easy the whole thing was.’

The Heretic actor then put on a faux French accent and impersonated a fashion photographer, much to the amusement of Nicholas in the interview with Vanity Fair.

The cheeky dig was possibly aimed at his long-term girlfriend from the 90s who was famously a model and worked with several major brands during their relationship in the mid-90s.

More recently the actress admitted that she and Hugh aren’t as close as they once were and she ‘hardly ever sees him’.

Appearing at the Bazaar At Work summit in London, she said: ‘I was with my ex, Hugh Grant, so it happened to both of us at the same time. Like me, he’d also worked a lot, and thought he was doing pretty well, until Four Weddings and a Funeral came out and suddenly it was completely different – he was a phenomenon.’

‘The film was a massive success, and everything changed. But there was two of us and I think that massively helped. When you’re suddenly thrust into the spotlight, your lives aren’t set up for it.’

‘[I] think it gives you a bond when you sort of go to the trenches with someone. I mean, he’s married with five children. I hardly ever see him, but he’s still very close to my heart.’

Although they may not be in contact as much these days, Hugh has echoed Liz’s warm feelings towards him.

In a 2018 interview on The Jess Cagle Show, Hugh said: ‘We’re like brother and sister.’

‘I think it’s partly because we went from zero to somewhere together, and we went through terrible years at the beginning when neither of us had any work, living in a tiny flat. It was quite bonding.’
