Pete Wicks could be defying odds on Strictly Come Dancing and making it all the way to the final as a pattern has emerged that works in his favour.

He’s been the unlikely star of the BBC series, and it seems like his journey may take him all the way to the final episode.

The former Towie star is the first to admit that he may not be the strongest dancer in the cast, having started the process as a complete beginner. However, viewers have fell for his commitment to the artform, and how he’s thrown himself into every routine.

Over the 11 weeks so far, Pete has transformed himself into George of the Jungle, The Joker, and Tony from West Side Story. He’s also been vulnerable during a dance dedicated to his best friend, his late nan.

While Pete, 36, and his professional dance parter Jowita Przystal, 30, may not ever be at the top of the leaderboard, he’s definitely a fan favourite. This means when the phonelines open, they’ve been able to shake up the order, and allow Pete to progress without facing the dance-off.

Despite the support, he is most likely to get the boot at 4-9, and according to Coral, JB Gill (3-1), and Tasha Ghouri (8-1) are just behind in the odds.

✨ Tasha and Aljaz Waltz to (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin and Salsa to Something New by Girls Aloud
✨ Chris and Dianne Charleston to When You’re Smiling by The Blue Vipers Of Brooklyn and Viennese Waltz to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica

✨ Pete and Jowita Argentine Tango to Bittersweet by Symphony The Verve and Foxtrot to Beyond The Sea by Bobby Darin

However, Pete has got something in his locker that could help him step right into the final.

In the upcoming episodes, the celebrities will be facing the challenge of performing two dances.

Pete and Jowita will be contending with a moody and sultry Argentine Tango to Bittersweet by Symphony The Verve.

Research from SlotsCalendar uncovered that only one of the last 71 eliminations, dating all the way back to 2018, have been when celebrities have performed an Argentine Tango.

The number of eliminations for each dance since 2018

Samba – 16

Charleston – 9

Jive – 9

Cha-Cha-Cha – 8

Tango – 7

Rumba – 6

American Smooth – 4

Paso Doble – 3

Foxtrot – 2

Viennese Waltz – 2

Salsa – 2

Street/Commercial – 1

Argentine Tango – 1

Waltz – 1

Quickstep – 1

The Argentine Tango was most recently taken on by fellow semi-finalists Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Škorjanec in last week’s episode. Although they faced the dance-off, they were saved by the judges over Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe so they didn’t add to the statistics.

His second dance is a Foxtrot to Beyond The Sea by Bobby Darin which is also only responsible for two exits in seven years.

The current favourites to lift the glitterball trophy – Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell – have the riskiest routine, out of the ones that have been assigned.

They will be dancing a Charleston to When You’re Smiling by The Blue Vipers Of Brooklyn. The style has ended nine couples’ journeys. They also have the much safer Viennese Waltz to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, which could help them out.

If Pete does make it to the final on December 14 then there could possibly be a special somebody in the audience – Maura Higgins.

She is currently in Australia after being voted out of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! She will remain in the country until the final this weekend, but could make it back to the UK in time for the special moment.

The 34-year-old has been opening up more on the status of their blossoming romance. In an interview on This Morning, Maura revealed that she misses him and is looking forward to their reunion.

The Strictly Come Dancing semi-final airs Saturday at 6:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
