WWE fans were left terrified as Trick Williams ended up caught with the ropes twisted around his neck.

Some viewers even feared the NXT Champion was almost ‘decapitated’ in a scary moment during his title defence against Ridge Holland at NXT Deadline this weekend.

During Saturday night’s premium live event (the final one to air on the WWE Network before the move to Netflix), Ridge avoided a charge from Trick who ended up tangled between the top and middle rope.

The champ used his hands to keep the ropes from choking him as the referee tried to get him free.

Despite appearing to be part of the match, viewers were shocked by the scary moment, with plenty of people unsure whether or not it was actually planned.

”Trick almost got decapitated and still won. Jesus Christ #NXTDeadline,’ wrote @SupahZ_, while @BramKassidy added: ‘That was scary seeing Trick neck getting caught on the ropes.’

‘Trick taking that rope spot on his neck just genuinely made me uncomfortable,’ said @sistertonin, as @TheEnemiesPE3 tweeted: ‘Trick Williams getting caught in the ropes made my heart stop 😭 like wtf.’

‘Nah man what happened to Trick was scary his neck was tied in the ropes holy I’m glad he got out and seemed ok #WWEDeadline,’ wrote @PeralezZachary.

And @him_yadav added: ‘Seeing Trick Williams caught in the ropes had my heart racing 😭 What just happened?! #WWEDeadline’

Trick still won the match, meaning he will defend the gold at NXT New Year’s Evil on January 7 against former NXT North American Champion Oba Femi.

The dominating heavyweight, who is the longest running North American Champion in history, made his return in the opening match of the night, replacing Eddy Thorpe in the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge.

His double pin on Nathan Frazer and Wes Lee secured him the win after he already scored a point for pinning Je’Von Evans not longer after he came into the match.

In the main event, Giulia’s meteoric rise in WWE continued as she triumphed in the Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge and outlasted Stephanie Vaquer, Sol Ruca, Zaria and Wren Sinclair.

She was first in alongside Wren, picking up the first fall just before the 10 minute mark, while her second match-winning pin came with nine seconds on the clock.

Like Femi, she’s also earned herself a huge opportunity as she’ll face NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez at New Year’s Evil.

Elsewhere on the show, Lola Vice went three for three in NXT Underground matches with a victory over Jaida Parker after the pair’s rivalry intensified in recent weeks.

Nathan Frazier pulled double duty, wrestling twice despite opening the show in the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge and getting busted upon midway through.

He was still able to team up with Axiom as they successfully defended their NXT Tag Team Titles against No Quarter Catch Crew’s Myles Borne and Tavion Heights.
