Lisa Kudrow has shared her comfort that Friends co-star Matthew Perry was able to ‘die happy’.
The actor, who played the beloved Chandler Bing in the sitcom, died last October at the age of 54.
An autopsy showed that he had been killed by ‘acute effects of ketamine’, with a police investigation into his death currently ongoing.
Following the heartbreaking news, the cast – also including Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Courteney Cox – issued a joint statement, before posting individual tributes on social media.
During an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, to promote her new Netflix series, No Good Deed, the Phoebe Buffay actress explained that she had been able to take some solace from her grief.
‘This will sound odd. I’m more comforted that he was happy the day he died,’ she told Dax Shepard, who revealed that he only knew Perry through recovery.

‘He got to die happy. And to me, that was a gift.
‘It is complicated. But I loved that Matthew I first met and the one at the end, because God love him, this is you, and I love you. I understand, and so did he.’
In August, five people were charged in connection with Perry’s death, including his personal assistant and two doctors.

Kudrow previously opened up about her loss during a lengthy chat with the Hollywood Reporter, after starring alongside the actor for all 10 seasons of Friends.
She shared that she had started rewatching the series as a way of honoring her former castmate, and celebrating his talents.
‘Honestly, I wasn’t able to watch it because it’s too embarrassing to watch yourself. But if I make it about Matthew, then that’s okay,’ she told the outlet. ‘And it’s just celebrating how hilarious he was — and that is what I want to remember [about him].’

‘I’m laughing out loud, and everyone is hilarious. I’m blown away by Courteney Cox. I’m blown away by Jen,’ she said of rewatching it in the present day.
‘Matthew, obviously, is just uniquely hilarious. No one ever knew that cadence or comedic rhythm before him. Matt LeBlanc is hilarious. And David Schwimmer, too. Sometimes I even laugh at what I’ve done.
‘So yeah, I mean, that’s my own little way of celebrating [the anniversaries], just watching it. But it’s embarrassing. At home, if anyone walks in the room and I’m watching Friends, that’s a horrible look, I think, don’t you?’
Shedding light on how she wants Perry to be remembered in the wake of his death, she added: ‘I think the world is remembering him the way he wanted to be remembered. I think that’s happening [already].’
