This new Marvel film with a huge Hollywood leading man has garnered a Rotten Tomatoes rating almost as disastrous than box office flop Madame Web.
Kraven The Hunter, which is released today in UK cinemas, stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular hero, real name Sergei Kravinoff, whose fractured relationship with his relationship with his gangster father (Russell Crowe) motivated him to become the greatest and most feared hunter.
Based on the comic book series of the same name, the film also stars Ariana DeBose, Christopher Abbott, Fred Hechinger, and Alessandro Nivola.
But it seems the days of the big superhero blockbuster hits may be behind us as early reviews for Kraven The Hunter have seen it land an abysmal 14% rating from critics.
That’s only just higher than Madame Web at 11%, which many dubbed the worst Marvel film ever made upon its release.
The AU Review wrote: ‘A misguided actioner that ends Sony’s Spider-Man Cinematic Universe with the type of whimper we’ve come to expect from this poor Marvel offshoot that wasn’t even allowed to feature the very character it based itself around.’

The Sun dubbed the film ‘cringeworthy’ and ‘disjointed’, while MovieFreak.com blisteringly said Kraven The Hunter could ‘easily be mistaken for the dictionary definition of “meh.”’
The Chicago Sun Times said the film was ‘an undercooked pile of steaming mediocrity’, and Seattle Times postured that Kraven needs to ‘hunt down a better movie’ next time.
The Daily Telegraph wrote: ‘Last orders can’t come soon enough for the whole parade of supervillains, superheroes, or however they’re now choosing to identify. This is rock bottom.’
Empire added: ‘This all feels a long way from Chandor’s glory days of Margin Call and All Is Lost. Save the occasional flourish, Kraven The Hunter is limp, tired, uninvolving superhero fare.’
Kraven The Hunter has appealed more to general viewers, however, with a far higher audience score of 68%.

Johnson’s latest film, Robert Eggers’ adaptation of vampire horror Nosferatu, has fared far better, landing an impressive 93% rating on the Tomatometer.
Speaking ahead of Kraven The Hunter’s release, the rumoured Bond actor opened up about the bloody violence in the Marvel film.
‘The exciting thing for this movie is that we did not hold back, right? I mean, it’s been three years in the development of just fine-tuning, and making it feel, trying to justify this character. You can’t stick it in a box,’ he told Comic Book Resource.
‘You can’t make it PG-13. We needed to do this character justice, and it needed to be the R action that we’re now showing, because you see this anger and fury, and he goes on a vigilante rampage, because of where he’s come from as a young boy in this toxic environment, under his power-hungry father.’
Kraven The Hunter is in UK cinemas now.
