I am Not the Carlos of McLaren at Ferrari F1: Sainz

Carlos Sainz left McLaren and joined Ferrari at the start of the 2021 season, replacing four-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel. In his new chapter at the Scuderia, Sainz gelled into the team pretty. He scored a podium by coming second at the Monaco GP, his best finish yet.

However, Sainz has mentioned that he isn’t the Carlos of the second year in McLaren. Where he was in sync with the car and knew everything, Sainz feels he still needs more time to understand Ferrari’s package.

Carlos Sainz still feels there is time to get used to the new machinery

In an interview, Sky Sports F1, Sainz said, “I feel I am driving well, I am still not at the best that I can be. I always say I am not the Carlos of the second year in McLaren. Where it was, you know a bit better the car, the whole package. the team. But I am getting there trying to make the learning process as quickly as possible.”

So, what is he doing to become the Carlos of McLaren at Ferrari? – “I am living now in Maranello, there is a lot of hours on the simulator, a lot of hours on analysis, a lot time spent with the engineers, I don’t know how much difference it’s making, it’s impossible to calculate. But I really hope it’s making a difference and helping me to adapt quicker,” Sainz concluded.

How’s the Spaniard doing in the Italian team?

The 26-year-old joined the Maranello-based squad for the 2021 championship, partnering up with Charles Leclerc. Sainz has a points finish in five out of the six races so far this season. His best results were at the Emilia GP, where he placed fifth, and the Monaco GP where he came second and earned his first podium in red.

Sainz still has a long way to go in his first season at Ferrari and is hoping to make the most out of the opportunity. As of now, the Italian team sits in third place in the constructor’s championship with 94 points to their name. Sainz will be looking to increase the points tally and take the fight to Red Bull and Mercedes.
