A Strictly Come Dancing legend is set to guest star on Season 15 of Doctor Who

With season 14 including guest stars like Jonathan Groff and Callie Cooke, it looks like season 15 will be even more star studded with Russell T Davies confirming that Rose Ayling-Ellis will be joining the cast.

The 29-year-old who is best known for playing Frankie Lewis on EastEnders as well as winning Strictly Come Dancing in 2021.

During a Q&A the showrunner discussed Ayling-Ellis’ part on the show, saying her episode will be the scariest in the show’s history.

Davies said: ‘We’ve got a story with Rose Ayling-Ellis in the lead. She’s the lead in one episode, which is stunning. I think it’s our scariest episode, it’s absolutely terrifying.

‘She’s magnificent. It’s Ncuti with her and other guest names in that cast [and they’re] phenomenal,’ RadioTimes reports.

Davies added additional information in a statement, saying: ‘We always want guest actors on Doctor Who to have fun, but Rose takes it to a whole new level. She storms in with an astonishing performance of terror, anger and bravery in one of the most frightening episodes we’ve ever made.’

Ayling-Ellis said in the statement: ‘I loved Doctor Who when I was growing up, so being cast in the show was a dream come true. My inner child is ecstatic with excitement!

‘Working with Russell and filming alongside the talented cast and crew has been an incredible experience. Ncuti is a wonderful Doctor, and I can’t wait for audiences to see what we have created together.’

Ayling-Ellis was a favourite among Strictly fans, with her dance to Clean Bandit’s Symphony being chosen by the public as Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment at the 2022 BAFTA TV Awards.

More recently, she was one of the presenters at the Paralympics. She hosted Afternoon Live alongside broadcaster Clare Balding from inside the Athletes’ Village with live BSL (British Sign Language) signing.

Speaking about the opportunity, she said it was ‘a great opportunity to show people what us disabled people can do.

‘It breaks people’s barriers of understanding what we are capable of. Really, though, we shouldn’t be trying to prove this to people.’

She continued: ‘It is really exciting that I am the first deaf person to host a live sports TV show.

‘People seem to think that hosting a show is also to do with hearing, but now I’m here to prove that doesn’t have to be.’

The actress is also set to star in the upcoming ITV series, Code of Silence, in which she plays a deaf canteen worker who becomes embroiled in a harrowing police investigation.
