A newly resurfaced interview with Ryan Reynolds reveals how the actor slapped his child co-star during a movie scene in an unscripted moment.
The Deadpool actor, 48, has found himself in the spotlight amid his wife Blake Lively’s legal battle with her It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni.
Lively, 37, has accused Baldoni, 41, of sexual harassment and creating a hostile environment. Baldoni, who has denied the allegations, has countersued Lively and Reynolds for attempting to gain control of the movie by taking certain measures.
With the Hollywood couple under the magnifying glass, social media users have discovered one of Reynolds’ past unrelated interviews that lifted the lid on one of his most memorable roles yet.
In 2005, Reynolds spoke to the online publication Radio Free about his role in the 2005 blockbuster remake of The Amityville Horror. He starred as husband and stepfather George who has to navigate the family through the bizarre and supernatural occurrences at their beautiful new house.
Former Home and Away actress Melissa George played his wife Kathy opposite Chloe Grace Moretz, Jimmy Bennett and Jesse James as their children.

In one scene, Reynolds’ character is seen lightly slapping stepson Billy (James) across the face after becoming possessed by the unseen forces, but it was completely improvised.
When asked about the slap in the throwback interview, the Wrexham FC co-owner joked: ‘Yeah, Jesse James. He had it coming.’
Reynolds added: ‘No, it was actually horrible. I didn’t mean to do it. It wasn’t hard or anything. He looked up like he just won the lottery. It was just so cool to him. And I look over and the script supervisor’s crying, and I’m trying to apologise to her. I don’t know what’s happening.’
He then joked that ‘the Indians did it to me’ when it was suggested he was possessed during the scene, in keeping with the supernatural theme.
The actor later divulged: ‘It was one of those great moments. In a perverse way, I was sort of excited by the fact that something happened on film that was just totally unplanned. And it just came out organically enough, and not so organically that it actually hurt anyone.

‘So everyone walked away from it, but it was definitely disturbing.’
The Amityville Horror (2005) is a remake of the 1979 original film that starred the late Margot Kidder in the lead role.
It is loosely inspired by the real events surrounding the Lutz family, who lived in an Amityville, New York house for a short while. It is the same home where Ronald DeFeo Jr committed the mass murder of his family in 1974.
The remake proved to be a huge success and grossed an impressive $107.5million at the box office on a modest budget of $19m.
It’s the second interview related to Reynolds to resurface in recent days, with people rediscovering comments from his former Deadpool co-star TJ Miller, who said the actor was ‘horrifically mean’ while in character during filming.
The legal dispute between Lively and Reynolds with Baldoni has continued to develop with the actress’ lawyer accusing Baldoni’s primary lawyer Brian Freedman of a ‘harassing and retaliatory media campaign’ against the couple in the latest filing.
A trial date has been set for March 9, 2026.
