Mercedes Announce Heartbreaking News Regarding Romain Grosjean’s Farewell F1 Test at French GP

Romain Grosjean left F1 in the most horrific manner last season. Although Haas released him before the Bahrain Grand Prix, his high-speed crash in Sakhir shocked the world, with his car engulfed in flames.

Despite the severity of that crash, Grosjean escaped with burns to his hands and his life. Although that would prove to be his last F1 race, Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff promised the Frenchman a drive in the 2019 championship winning Mercedes car.

Recently, Mercedes provided an update on Grosjean’s test.

Mercedes postpone Romain Grosjean’s test in France

Originally, Grosjean was to carry out the test on June 29th, which was the initial date of the French Grand Prix. However, the FIA cancelled the Canadian Grand Prix due to COVID-19 complications in April, replacing it with the Turkish Grand Prix.

A few weeks later, they cancelled the Turkish Grand Prix due to travel restrictions, which brought about a shuffle in the calendar. The French Grand Prix moved up to the coming weekend, with Austria getting back-to-back races to compensate for the cancellations.

Despite these changes, June 29th remained the date for Grosjean’s test with the Silver Arrows. However, the Brackley-based outfit recently confirmed the test will be postponed to a later date.

Mercedes owed the postponement of the Frenchman’s test to travel restrictions and quarantine requirements. Their statement read, We’re disappointed to announce that Romain Grosjean‘s Mercedes test has been postponed because of travel restrictions and quarantine requirements.”

“We’re committed to giving Romain his chance in a Mercedes F1 car and we’re working to reschedule the test later this summer,” Mercedes added.

With the summer break scheduled after the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 1, Mercedes will hope to schedule Grosjean’s test in that time period.
