“Physical Therapy Daily is Paying Off”: Taylor Fritz Gives Injury Update Ahead of Wimbledon Championships 2021

Taylor Fritz recently sustained a knee injury, after losing his French Open second-round match against Dominik Koepfer. He lost 3-5, 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 against the World No. 53. The World No. 36 sustained a meniscus tear in his knee, during the four-set loss against the German.

The 23-year-old has given updates on his injury and his preparation ahead of the Wimbledon Championships. He had a successful knee surgery eight days ago, has started physical therapy and is on his way towards recovery.

Taylor Fritz won the first round of the competition against Joao Sousa. He brushed past the Portuguese in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, and set up a second-round clash with German international, Dominik Koepfer.

The American had enjoyed a better head-to-head record against the German, having beaten him twice earlier. But the clay-court battle was not an easy one for either player. However, the World No.53 tasted victory after 2h 35m of brilliant tennis. It was an upset that the German pulled off with his strength and skill. Taylor had to leave the court in a wheelchair as he suffered the knee injury during the game.

The American is hopeful of coming back on the court for the Wimbledon Championships.

Fritz turned pro in 2015 and this will be his fifth Wimbledon appearance. He will be determined to finish higher than his previous results, which were second round finishes in 2018 and 2019. With an injured knee and the recent surgery, it will be a tough challenge for the 23-year-old to enjoy a higher finish.

The Wimbledon Championships will begin on June 28, and the men’s singles draw will be out on June 25.
