Pirelli F1 Boss Offers Explanation on Max Verstappen & Lewis Hamilton’s Reported Protest
Controversy is no stranger to the world of Formula One. From the DAS used by Mercedes last year to the flexi wing on Red Bull this year, the off-track battles continue to heat up in F1. However, Pirelli are hogging the limelight after the race in Baku, which saw Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll crash due to tire failures.
During media activities on Thursday, a rumor emerged where drivers boycotted the meeting with Pirelli on the same day. However, the reason for calling off the meeting is now clear with this response from Pirelli head of F1, Mario Isola.
Pirelli boss gives the key reason for calling off the meeting
Yesterday, Dutch daily De Telegraaf circulated a rumor which stated all drivers boycotted a meeting with Pirelli. In addition, words from Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton about Pirelli during their press conference added fuel to the fire.
However, Isola denied this rumor when speaking to Motorsport.com at the French Grand Prix. In addition, he mentioned he will attend the driver’s briefing later today as all drivers will be present.
He said, “No, no, we have decided that I will attend the drivers’ briefing tomorrow, because they are all there anyway.
“It was just a lot easier to use that opportunity because everyone is already there anyway. It was at the discretion of the drivers to do it all in one meeting.” (Quotes translated from Google)

Isola addresses comments made by Max Verstappen in the French GP press conference
Verstappen addressed Pirelli’s conclusions after investigating his crash in Baku, terming them vague. The Dutchman said, “I thought what came out was a bit vague. All I can say is that the team on our side did everything it was supposed to do. They have complied with all guidelines regarding tire pressure and the like.”
Isola addressed the 23-year-old’s comments by making it clear he is available to answer any question. The Italian said, “I have heard and read Max’s statement. I totally understand that he is angry about what happened in Baku. But as Max knows, I am always available to answer any question.
“For that reason, I will also attend the drivers briefing tomorrow, to answer any questions that may arise and clarify something that is difficult to explain in a few lines in a press release.”
While the outcome of Isola’s meeting with the drivers later today remains to be seen, the FIA will carry out tougher checks this weekend. With free practice in Le Castellet a few hours away, Verstappen and Hamilton will look to top the timesheets in both sessions.
