England take on Scotland in the Euros tonight – and the action is sparking some tension in the world of WWE.

Preston-born Wade Barrett – who returned to the company last year as a commentator on the NXT brand – has taken aim at proud Scotsman Drew McIntyre and suggested he’s a let down as the UK’s first ever WWE Champion.

Speaking before the Euro 2020 clash tonight, Wade picked the Three Lions to win 5-0, and said: ‘Here’s the deal with Drew McIntyre. A lot of people got very excited when he became the first ever British WWE Champion. For me, it is an absolutely disgrace, it is an outrage.

‘Everybody on the planet knows it should have been me – quite clearly, I had plenty of opportunities that were taken away from me. But ultimately, it’s not me I feel bad for.’

The former five-time Intercontinental Champion – who once got physical with Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney – was pitched by many to become the first Brit to hold the company’s top prize, but it never panned out – but he insisted he’s not ‘bitter’.

He told WWE UK: ‘I’m not here trying to be bitter about it. There’s a lot of people, when I complain about this, thinking somehow I’m still beating myself up about the fact that Drew won the championship.

‘That’s not what this is. I’m not worried about me, I’m worried about the fans – the great British fans of WWE. For years and years, they wanted their first ever WWE Champion from the UK.

‘And for years they dreamed – “Who will this be? Let’s just hope it’s somebody charismatic, somebody handsome, somebody heroic.” And they’ve ended up with Drew bloody McIntyre.

‘I mean, if it had been Wade Barrett, they would have got everything they ever wanted. So really… it’s the fans who were cheated. There should be protests, there should be riots, there should be bedlam.

‘It’s an absolute disgrace that Drew McIntyre will forever be the first WWE Champion from Great Britain.’

Drew has already responded, and claimed his pal was never able to ‘get the job done’.

‘Wade is an expert talker. That’s why he’s not in the ring anymore, that’s why he wasn’t the first British champion – I was,’ he said.

‘He runs his mouth better than anyone but he can’t quite get the job done. So he’s at the commentary desk now, he does a phenomenal job at is – but my Guinness, he loves to run his mouth.’
