Warning: spoilers ahead for Loki.

Loki has seen Marvel fans dig deep for Easter Eggs in the first two episodes on Disney Plus, from a potential sighting of Peggy Carter to a Photoshopped Tom Hiddleston photo being snuck in.

But while it’s important to keep one’s eyes peeled for any references to the MCU, it’s also vital to keep your ears open too… especially considering this Loki has just come from a battle with the Avengers.

In episode one of the show, Loki is travelling in a lift with Mobius M Mobius (Owen Wilson), after the TVA agent convinces judge Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) not to have the God of Mischief reset for causing a breach to the timeline.

As one may usually find in an elevator, there’s some classical music playing in the background.

That music wasn’t just a random choice. In actual fact, it was Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No. 13 in A Minor, as spotted by CBR.com.

What’s the significance of that, you may ask? Well, that very composition was in the 2012 Avengers movie, playing in the background when Loki wreaked havoc on a function in Stuttgart, Germany before ordering the crowd to kneel before him.

In one of the most gruesome moments from the film, Loki also steals a man’s eye using a torturous-looking device. Grim.

The Avengers track him down to the location, with Loki suspiciously surrendering to them before being taken in by S.H.I.E.L.D.

The inclusion of this piece of music may be a reminder to viewers of the Loki that they’re are dealing with, considering his character development in the years since the first Avengers film.

While fans witnessed Loki reconcile with his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and his brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in Thor: Ragnarok, helping his brother take down their sister Hela (Cate Blanchett) and save the remaining Asgardians from the destruction of their kingdom, this isn’t the same Loki.

The Loki we’re following in the Marvel series is the 2012 version of the character, who hasn’t gone down the same path of redemption… yet.

Fans will no doubt be wondering whether this version of Loki will end up on a similar trajectory that we already know he’s capable of in the MCU.

However, this may not be so easy after crossing paths with the rogue variant in episode two, who many believe to be Lady Loki (Sophia Di Martino).

Loki returns on Wednesday and is available to watch on Disney Plus.
