‘I Reached Out To Mike Tyson’- Tyron Woodley Details His Interaction With Boxing Legend

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is counting days for his showdown against YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul. ‘The Chosen One’ was recently released from UFC after his last fight against Vicente Luque at UFC 260.

Woodley will follow the footsteps of his colleague and longtime friend Ben Askren in switching from MMA to boxing. While Askren’s debut went horribly wrong, as he lost to Jake Paul via KO. Woodley would hope to learn something from the former’s mistake and get ready for the rumble.

Although Woodley may not have any boxing background, he is a well-known striker across the MMA and there are only a few who will doubt his striking ability.

As such, to sharpen his striking and also to get to know the boxing drills, Woodley paid a visit to none other than the great ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.

In a recent interview, the University of Missouri grad talked about the time he asked Tyson for help. “You know in MMA or really in high-level sports, it’s all about drilling,” he said. “You can watch when I’m doing superman punch but If you don’t drill it a million, million times, you are not gonna be very good at it.”

“For me, it’s just the drills. Like I reached out to Mike Tyson. I wanted to just do the drill. I wanted to see the drill that turns you into an animal…I don’t want you to show me how to box. He may not be a great boxing coach, but he will not forget those drills,” he concluded.

Jake Paul’s records prior to fighting Tyron Woodley

Paul (3-0) has a brief but highlighted career as of now. The YouTuber turned boxer has millions of followers on social media who also turn up during his fights.

He entered professional boxing with a match against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib on January 30, 2020. The match featured as a co-main event that ended in a TKO win for Paul.

Jake next fought against professional basketball player Nate Robinson. The match served as an undercard for Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. exhibition fight. Paul won the fight via KO in round 1.

He next up faced a legitimate prizefighter in Ben Askren. The latter was an accomplished MMA star with title reigns in Bellator MMA and ONE championship. It took just 1 minute and 59 seconds for Paul to knock Askren out.

Although Paul has recorded some good wins, Woodley is the toughest challenge he would be facing. Also, the latter has a load of experience fighting in the elite tier of UFC, something Paul would be wary of.
