Is Eugenie Bouchard Playing Wimbledon Championships 2021?

Former World No.5 Eugenie Bouchard was last seen on the tennis court while playing at the WTA Monterrey Open. That event happened in March and since then Bouchard has not played a single match and skipped the entirety of the clay season as well. And her absence will now stretch to Wimbledon Championships 2021.

When was the last time Eugenie Bouchard played a match?

Bouchard played two consecutive tournaments in Mexico in March. First, she played WTA Guadalajara where she reached the final, and next she played in Monterrey where she was ousted in the first round. And after this, to everyone’s surprise, Bouchard suddenly didn’t participate anywhere.

Then during French Open 2021, Bouchard opened up about her absence on her social media handles. She reported that she had torn her right shoulder muscles while she was playing in Guadalajara.

“Hey guys. Bad news to report. As some of you may know, I’ve been having pain in my right shoulder since last fall. This past March, I tore my subscapularis in my first-round match in Guadalajara. Since then, I have tried every form of conservative treatment and rehab known to man, to no avail.”

After dealing with a lot of pain, Bouchard underwent shoulder surgery which now left her on a long road to recovery. Hence, Bouchard didn’t play French Open 2021 and will not play Wimbledon Championships 2021.

“So last week, I pulled the trigger and had arthroscopic surgery. Doc says everything went great. I have a tough road of rehab ahead of me, but my spirits are high and I will work hard to get back to the job that I love. I will be busy in the next few months and I’ll keep you posted!”

During the clay-court season, Bouchard was seen on the qualifying list of WTA Belgrade that happened before the French Open 2021. But she withdrew at the last moment. And when Bouchard was not there on the wildcard list of French Open 2021 and her non-participation at Roland Garros was confirmed.

Bouchard’s current ranking is at 115 and that would have enabled her to enter the qualifying draw of Wimbledon 2021. However, she could have gotten a wildcard as well as she is a former runner-up in London. Now the Canadian has skipped the clay and grass-court season and will take a few more weeks to return on the tour.
