Supernatural actor Jared Padalecki has spoken out over the beef regarding the prequel series being developed by his co-star Jensen Ackles.

Following the final of fantasy series Supernatural in 2020, it has been announced that Jensen and his wife Danneel Ackles are working on a prequel called The Winchesters, focusing on the parents of Dean and Sam Winchester, who he and Jared played respectively.

After Jensen shared a tweet about the announcement, Jared responded, saying he was ‘gutted’ not to be a part of the upcoming show on The CW, as it emerged that he was seemingly not involved.

Despite the apparent sincerity of his disappointment, some fans expressed their view that he was joking, prompting him to emphasise that he was not.

In a new tweet, Jared thanked his fans for their support, writing: ‘Hey world. Thank you for the love.’

However, he asked that they not send ‘any hate or threats’, as he ‘cares deeply’ about those working on the prequel.

‘Please PLEASE don’t send any hate or threats,’ he wrote.

‘I care deeply about everybody involved and would be in true misery if any of them were harmed or threatened.’

Jensen hasn’t commented publicly on the controversy, nor has Danneel, who had a recurring role on Supernatural.

In Jared’s first original tweet, he responded to Jensen sharing an article about the prequel, writing: ‘Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.’

In a follow-up tweet, Jared told a fan who thought it was a joke: ‘It’s not. This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted.’

The actors starred as on-screen brothers in Supernatural from 2005 to 2020, as they faced the dangers of hunting down monstrous creatures together.

The prequel series The Winchesters will focus on Sam and Dean’s parents, John and Mary and will be narrated by Jensen.

Jared stars as the titular character in another show aired on The CW – Walker – a crime drama on which he’s also an executive producer.

Metro.co.uk has contacted The CW and representatives of Jensen and Jared for comment.

Supernatural is available to rent on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.
