‘Reliving of That Hurt Scott’: NBA Analyst on the Relationship Between Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen

Renowned NBA analyst Michael Wilbon analyzed the complicated relationship between legends Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. It is no secret that there is more tumult inside the world of basketball than is seen on the outside. Talking about the NBA on The Rich Eisen Show, Wilbon spoke about how a documentary provided a deeper insight into the unpleasant connection between the two former teammates and stars of their era.

‘The Last Dance’ was a motivating Netflix series that showcased the evolution of Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan. It also portrayed the dominance of the Bulls for many years. However, the documentary attracted controversy like a magnet. Jordan’s gambling, the rift between teammates, and the glorification of Jordan; the show was a revelation but no stranger to questionable eyes.

Retired Chicago Bulls Small Forward Scottie Pippen himself did not seem too pleased with the hit series. He self-admittedly “wasn’t too pleased with The Last Dance”. Pippen argued that the show focused more on the upliftment of Michael alone, and did not exhibit the greatness of that side enough.

Michael Wilbon explains the nervy Michael Jordan- Scottie Pippen bond

Interacting with talk-show host Rich Eisen, analyst Michael Wilbon broke down the potential rift in the current relationship between Jordan and Pippen. “They’ve had a complex relationship, we saw that in the documentary, which explains it much more than any individual statement. I don’t know if it was ever, in my view, hostile; it was just that they are very different people. They had a complex relationship,” the ESPN commentator said.

“I know that some of that, the reliving of that hurt Scott. If they were complex and hurt thirty years ago, then we know what they must feel like thirty years later. They were never the best of friends.” Wilbon argued that in spite of time having passed, the crack in the connection will remain.

Regardless of the negative outcomes, ‘The Last Dance’ was an awe-inspiring show for the next generation. Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen built an untouchable legacy for years to come, and one can only hope that all is good in the hood. What did you think of the show?
