Britney Spears conservatorship: Financial firm asks to withdraw from court order

Bessemer Trust, the financial management firm appointed as co-conservator for Britney Spears’ financial affairs, has asked to be withdrawn from the role.

Following the 39-year-old’s explosive testimony last month, the firm, who was appointed to oversee her financial affairs alongside her dad, Jamie Spears, has filed court documents concerning their role in the conservatorship.

In a bombshell court hearing, the Toxic singer told a judge she wished for the conservatorship to be ended, describing the arrangement as ‘abusive’,  and alleged she was under restrictions which include being unable to have children and get married.

Bessemer Trust Company of California has now filed court documents in LA, asking to be withdrawn – and requested the court to approve this ‘on an expedited basis’.

The firm, via PA, cited ‘changed circumstances’ in the filing, saying Britney’s testimony made it clear she did not consent to the conservatorship.

‘As a result of the Conservatee’s testimony at the June 23 hearing, however, Petitioner has become aware that the Conservatee objects to the continuance of her Conservatorship and desires to terminate the Conservatorship,’ the document states.

‘Petitioner has heard the Conservatee and respects her wishes.’

The company was appointed to the role by the court in November, but the latest legal filing revealed it has been awaiting further paperwork before it could act on her behalf – which was only filed this week.

Following Bessemer’s request to leave its role, Jamie will remain as the sole conservator, with

Jodi Montgomery, the singer’s care-giver, staying on as conservator of her person.

Britney has been under the control of the conservatorship since 2008, with dad Jamie in control of her personal and financial affairs.

The mum-of-two spoke openly about the court order last week, telling the judge: ‘They’ve done a good job at exploiting my life. So I feel like it should be an open court hearing and they should listen to what I have to say.

‘A lot has happened since two years ago, the last time I was in court. I don’t think I was heard on any level when I came to court last time.

‘After I’ve told the whole world I’m okay, it’s a lie. I’m not happy and I can’t sleep. I’m depressed. I cry everyday … It’s my wish and dream for all of this to end. I want my life back.’

Jamie’s lawyer, Vivian Lee Thoreen, later read out a statement in court on his behalf, which said: ‘[Jamie] is sorry to see his daughter in so much pain. [He] loves his daughter and misses her very much.’

On Wednesday judge Brenda Penny refused a separate request from Britney’s lawyer, Samuel Ingham, to remove Jamie from the role of co-conservator, with that paperwork being filed last November.

The judge did not rule out future petitions to suspend her dad, with the next court hearing scheduled for July 14.
