Fans of The Golden Girls have celebrated all episodes of the classic sitcom finally landing on Disney Plus, with one person describing it as a ‘most momentous day’.
Earlier this year, it was announced that every episode of the show, which originally aired for seven seasons from 1985 to 1992, was going to be made available to watch in the UK and Ireland on Star on Disney Plus.
Fans couldn’t wait to be reunited with Dorothy (Beatrice Arthur), Rose (Betty White), Blanche (Rue McClanahan), and Sophia (Estelle Getty) – and that wait is finally over.
On Friday July 2, the sitcom officially became a part of the Disney Plus catalogue, with one person marking the occasion by tweeting: ‘Let’s not forget that today is a momentous day…’
‘It is officially “Thank you for being a friend” day if you have Disney+. The glorious #GoldenGirls have landed,’ they added.
‘GOOD AFTERNOON WORLD. Today I am grateful that they’ve put #GoldenGirls on #DisneyPlus,’ someone else wrote.

Another person said that they were ‘looking forward to my #goldengirls marathon all weekend’.
‘Day sorted sofa copious amount of tea and The Golden Girls,’ someone else commented.
We certainly know how we’re going to be spending our weekend!
Over the course of its 180-episode run, The Golden Girls won numerous accolades, including 11 Emmys, four Golden Globes and receiving over 120 award nominations in total.
In January this year, Golden Girls star Betty celebrated her 99th birthday.
She marked the milestone by ‘staying up as late as I want’, revealing that her advice for living a long and healthy life was ‘having a sense of humour’.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that The Golden Girls had a significant influence on the fifth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise, as the sitcom inspired director Justin Lin to expand the film universe.
He added that it would be a ‘dream’ to cast Betty in the final two Fast and Furious films. We’d love to see it!
The Golden Girls is available to watch on Star on Disney Plus.
