Tokyo Olympics 2020: Australian Tennis Team Roster Including Ashleigh Barty, Alex de Minaur, and Others

After the successful completion of the Wimbledon Championships 2021, it’s time to witness some quality tennis at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The biggest sporting event couldn’t take place last year due to the coronavirus pandemic but will begin in about two weeks in Japan. Intriguingly, World No.1 and Wimbledon 2021 winner Ashleigh Barty will also be representing Australia this time.

It’ll be the first time when Ashleigh Barty will be playing at the Olympics. Interestingly, she will also become the first indigenous Australian tennis player to feature at the Olympic Games.

The Australian Olympic Committee announced their biggest ever tennis squad for the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Even though there were 11 players in the initial list, Nick Kyrgios backed out lately as he believes there are too many restrictions there. As a result, it’ll be Alex de Minaur who will be leading the men’s charge in Tokyo.

Who are the other players in the Australian tennis team apart from Ashleigh Barty and Alex de Minaur?

Apart from de Minaur, John Millman and John Peers are also a part of the team. They will be playing their second Olympic Games after Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Millman will be partnering with Luke Saville while John Peers will be playing alongside de Minaur in the men’s doubles category. In addition, James Duckworth will be playing in the singles category along with de Minaur and Millman.

On the women’s side, Ash Barty will be playing doubles with Storm Sanders while Sam Stosur will be pairing up with Ellen Perez. Alja Tomljanovic will join Barty and Stosur in the singles category. The mixed doubles pairs will be announced on July 27, 2021.

Interestingly, it is going to be the fifth time when Sam Stosur will be playing at the Olympics and she’ll be the first Australian tennis player to accomplish the feat.

Fans are pretty excited to see team Australia and have huge expectations from all of them, especially from Ash Barty. Will she be able to win an Olympic Gold for her country this year?
