Warning: spoilers ahead for Loki episode 6.
The episode 6 finale of Marvel series Loki threw the entire MCU into disarray, as Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) discovered who was calling the shots at the TVA.
However, if fans take a close look at a particular line uttered by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) in Avengers: Endgame, they may realise that the timeline chaos may have been predicted all the way back in 2019.
After Loki and Sylvie discover that ‘He Who Remains’ (Jonathan Majors) is the person pulling the strings at the TVA – who is most likely a variant of Kang the Conqueror – Sylvie decides to continue with her mission to kill him, successfully doing so after banishing Loki away.
As Loki arrives back at the TVA, he and everyone else at the organisation’s headquarters watch as the timeline branches off in multiple different directions, hinting at the multiverse of madness that is to come in the MCU.
Considering Sylvie assassinated the individual in charge of monitoring all the goings-on of the ‘sacred timeline’, it should come as no surprise that her actions would result in unprecedented mayhem.

Two years ago when Avengers: Endgame was released, the epic blockbuster demonstrated the repercussions that can occur as a result of time-travelling, as the Avengers embarked on a mission to retrieve the six Infinity Stones from different points in time.
After Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) uses the Infinity Stones to snap the blipped half of the universe back into existence, Thanos (Josh Brolin) makes his way to the Avengers from the past.
Following Thanos’ destruction of the Avengers Compound, Tony finds Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) on the floor, as the former Captain America asks: ‘What happened?’
‘You mess with time, it tends to mess back. You’ll see,’ Tony replies, before they venture forth to battle Thanos one last time.

While Tony may know far less about time travel than the TVA, his statement was bang on the money.
When you mess with time, it does indeed mess back – which is exactly what’s happened in Loki.
When Loki arrives back at the TVA, he’s startled to discover that TVA agent Mobius M Mobius (Owen Wilson) no longer remembers who he is, nor does Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku).
While the answer for this could be that Loki has actually landed in a different timeline where Mobius has never met Loki, he also spots that a statue in the building that previously resembled the fake Time-Keeper is now an effigy to Kang.

It seems as though Kang has been set up as a formidable foe for Marvel’s greatest heroes in Phase Four of the MCU, as ‘He Who Remains’ warned that there were different versions of himself that were not to be trifled with.
We have a feeling time isn’t done messing with Loki quite yet.
The first season of Loki is available to watch on Disney Plus.
