Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford’s plans to enjoy a day out together during the heatwave didn’t quite go to plan as the pair ended up stuck on the motorway instead.

The This Morning presenters had set out in the hopes of making the most of the hottest day of the year so far, but found themselves sweltering on the M25 instead.

Eamonn, 61, took to social media to update his followers on what had happened, writing: ‘Why didn’t I stay in the back garden? M25. Clockwise from South Mimms. Standstill.’

He then shared a picture of the two of them in car with their sunglasses on, adding: ‘Our view on The M25 ….. Lovely Day but Sooo Hot.’

Ruth, 61, added a clip of the standstill traffic, writing: ‘Day out with my beloved….M25 going nowhere.’

While the pair were no doubt warm enough, Eamonn was more worried about the welfare of the animals being transported around them.

No movement for at least an hour . If we are hot my concern really goes to the animals in various Horse boxes behind us. This has to be a serious accident that has happened ahead . #M25 Clockwise post South Mimms towards Dartford. pic.twitter.com/TQ44Q2w9Fc

‘This has to be a serious accident that has happened ahead.  #M25 Clockwise post South Mimms towards Dartford.’

Emergency services closed the M25 clockwise due to a serious crash near junction 30 for Grays around 2.30pm after two lorries collided, with emergency services attending the scene.

Highways England confirmed that there were 2.3miles of tailbacks caused by the incident but said investigation work into the crash was ongoing at 5pm.

Eamonn and Ruth have yet to update fans further on their progress and whether they managed to get out of the traffic in the end.
