Jeremy Clarkson has revealed how much was cut from the upcoming The Grand Tour Scotland special, saying that there’s a ‘good reason’ why particular scenes aren’t shown.
In The Grand Tour Scotland special, part of a double bill on Amazon Prime Video, Jeremy is joined by co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May as they take a trip to the Scottish Highlands in vintage cars from the 1970s.
The highly-anticipated double bill was filmed last year in between lockdowns, with the presenters forced to film in the UK rather than different locations abroad due to the pandemic.
While viewers have a lot to look forward to in the high-octane programme, there was quite a lot that was filmed that they won’t ever get to see, Jeremy admitted.
When asked if any scenes were omitted from the season four special, Jeremy told RadioTimes.com and other press: ‘Inevitably. Our shooting ratio is off the charts. I think the average shooting ratio for a TV show these days is 12:1/ For everything one minute, 11 get thrown away.’
Jeremy guessed that when David Attenborough films nature shows, his shooting ratio ‘is probably 500:1’.

‘For obvious reasons, you know, he spends 499 hours waiting for a polar bear to come out. But ours is a massive shooting ratio. It’s like 1200:1,’ the petrolhead said.
‘As Andy Wilman, our producer, always says, that’s how rubbish the three of us are. We have to throw away 1199 hours to get one good one. So lots of stuff ends up on the cutting floor. Lots of it does.’

Jeremy added that ‘most of it doesn’t get shown for a very good reason’, although he failed to elaborate on what that good reason is.
The Grand Tour presenters love to prank each other every now and again, with their Lochdown special featuring one of their very best antics.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press, James said that he’s already plotting his revenge on co-star Jeremy, after Jeremy and Richard had the idea to pump thousands of litres into James’ vehicle behind his back while he left the vehicle unattended at a pitstop.

When James came back and spotted a leak out, he opened the caravan door and the blast of tonnes of water knocked him to the ground.
‘I do have a couple of big ideas lined up for Clarkson,’ James admitted. We’re intrigued!
The Grand Tour Scotland arrives on Amazon Prime Video on Friday July 30.
