Master League will be sold as DLC for eFootball confirms Konami

Konami has revealed additional details about the video game franchise formerly known as PES, revealing that it won’t be online-only.

The decision to turn Pro Evolution Soccer into a free-to-play game has been broadly welcomed by most fans, even if they don’t like the new name, but many are wary about the small print and whether single-player features like Master League are going to end up being neglected.

Master League wasn’t even mentioned in the initial batch of information, but Konami has now confirmed that it will be sold as paid-for DLC in the future, implying that other offline modes – hopefully including Become A Legend – will be released later.

Konami has also clarified that the mobile version of eFootball will be an update to the current iOS and Android app, with ‘select’ user data being carried over, so you don’t have to start from scratch. Although the mobile versions won’t launch until later in the year, after the console and PC editions.

What’s also unknown at this time is how Konami will handle MyClub in the future, which could convincibly involve FIFA style microtransactions. It also seems likely that you’ll have to pay separately for more licensed clubs, although that too is not yet confirmed.

An IGN interview with series producer Seitaro Kimura mostly consists of him telling fans to wait till August for more information but it does reveal that the game will see weekly live updates, to keep up to date with real world squad changes and transfers, and ‘in-games campaigns’ – although he doesn’t explain what they are.

He does, however, try to assuage fans’ concerns that the game is skewed towards the mobile versions, saying: ‘We’re still making games on consoles first. We then take that exact same experience and make it available for mobile devices. In other words, we are not making the game for mobile, but working to make mobile more console-like.’

eFootball will launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC in the early autumn, with the mobile versions following shortly after.
