July 22 is officially Kanye West day, in Atlanta anyway.

After bringing his Donda album listening event to the city on Thursday, the rapper – who was born in Atlanta – was honored with his own day.

According to TMZ, the City of Atlanta presented the rap icon with a plaque backstage at the event and proclaimed July 22 would now be known as Kanye West Day.

The Blood On The Leaves rapper’s mother Donda was honored by Morris Brown College.

The late teacher taught at the school for 20 years and was Chair of the English Department at the first Black-owned HBCU in Georgia.

Kevin James, president of Morris Brown College, was on hand to present the Dr. Donda West Meritorious Service award on behalf of Kanye’s beloved mom.

The Jesus Walks rapper was sure to show love to schools on the night of his listening party after he gave 5,000 free tickets to faculty, staff, and students of several Atlanta-area HBCUs including Morris Brown College, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, Spelman College, and ITC.

The event was a huge success, however, fans have been left waiting to hear the album on the streaming platform after Kanye once again missed his own release time.

Waiting around is a distinctly familiar situation for fans, after Kanye also missed his release time for his last album, Jesus Is King, in 2019.

He later addressed the situation, saying he had to fix some of the mixes on particular songs.

This time around Kanye had actually already unveiled the album with the epic listening party and live stream.

However, Jay-Z’s surprise appearance on the final track could have something to do with the current delay.

Producer and music engineer, Young Guru, who’s worked with both Kanye and Jay, also revealed that it was a very last-minute collab, as he penned on Twitter: ‘HOV [Jay] did the verse today!!!! At 4pm.’

Donda is Kanye’s first album in two years and features collaborations with Pusha T, Lil Baby and Travis Scott.
