Elina Svitolina Monfils and Dayana Yastremska Encounter Disappointment as Alize Cornet and Team Defeat Them at Tokyo Olympics 2020
Recently married Elina Svitolina Monfils joined compatriot Dayana Yastremska to represent Ukraine in the women’s doubles tennis event in Tokyo Olympics. The duo faced France’s Alize Cornet and Fiona Ferro in the opening round of Sunday. Eventually, unable to cope up with the heavy-hitting Frenchwomen, Elina and Dayana suffered an early exit. The final scoreline: 6-2, 6-3.
Coming into the Olympics, the Ukrainian World No.6 Elina had to skip her honeymoon with beau Gael Monfils. Similarly, even the Frenchman enrolled himself to play for France in the capital of Japan.
However, one attempt for the medal for Team Ukraine busted as the duo lost in the opening round. Now, they both might try to give their all-in during the women’s singles tennis event.

Primarily, the heated conditions in Tokyo Olympics played a significant role in putting additional pressure on the athletes. Due to the climate, the Ukrainians found themselves lagging from the start of the match.
Although Elina and Dayana stayed positive, the Frenchwoman Alize and Fiona found themselves in the driving seat from Game 1. Moreover, they could move freely around the court and adjusted to the conditions well compared to their opponents.

Consequently, Team Ukraine lost two consecutive service games in the opening set. Afterward, Elina and Dayana both held their serves but could not stop Alize and Fiona either. Hence, the slow start cost them the first set, losing it 6-2.

Elina and Dayana saw upset against Alize and Fiano in Tokyo
From the beginning of the second set, the Ukrainian stars showed different determination altogether. Yet, in the fifth game of their do-or-die set, they lost their serve. However, immediately after, they recovered the loss to level the set at 3-3.
At 3-3, Elina and team again failed to hold their game and found themselves in deep trouble. This time, the Frenchwomen gave no chance to Ukrainians as they supported the break and got the 5-3 lead in the second set.

Following that, at 5-4, Alize and Fiona showed utmost discipline and closed the match at 6-2, 6-3. Next, they could face either Polish professionals Alicja Rosolska and Magda Linette or Jessica Pegula and Bethanie Mattek-Sands from the United States.
Coming to the singles event, Dayana has already lost her chance in the opening round, whereas Elina will play her first match against German Laura Siegemund on Sunday. Do you think tomorrow will be the day Mrs Monfils registers her first win after marriage?
