Genius PS5 trick lets you fit MORE games on console so you don’t have to keep deleting them

SONY is adding a new way to expand the storage capacity of the PlayStation 5.

It means that gamers who are running out of space on the console’s hard drive will no longer have to delete games before downloading new ones.

After all, games like Call of Duty can take up well over 100GB of storage.

And even though your PS5 has an 825GB SSD, only 667GB of that is actually usable.

In the console’s first major system update, Sony is adding the ability to expand the console’s storage with an additional hard drive.

The update, an early “beta” version of which rolled out to select users on Thursday, lets you add your own PCIe Gen 4 SSD hard drive.

This can be used for installing and playing PS5 games as if they were on the console.

The drive connects to an expansion port at the back of the console, which until the update rolls out more widely is effectively useless.

For some reason, Sony decided to deactivate the port at launch and hold off on allowing the addition of M.2 SSD storage until further down the line.

Sony hasn’t confirmed the minimum performance level required of the drive. It’s also not clear when the update will roll out more widely.

Until it does, there is another way you can expand your PS5’s storage.

Currently, you can plug in an external hard drive or solid-state drive via USB (not via the special port at the back).

This will immediately boost your storage while the unit is connected to the PS5.

The catch is that you can’t play PS5 games using this method, as the storage isn’t fast enough.

However, you can play PS4 games using this method – freeing up space on your PS5 for native games.
