Glaring Statistic Proves Ferrari are the Only F1 Team to Have Gone Backwards This Season

Scuderia Ferrari had a disastrous last season. The Italian team failed to register a single win marking their worst season in Formula 1 for over 40 years. The Maranello-based team who secured a record 16 contractors championships can only finish P6 in 2020.

Although it was expected that after having a dreadful 2020 season, Ferrari will head into the new season with major upgrades. However, the statistics showed that the Italian team is the only team on the grid to lose pace since the start of the season.

Ferrari, the only team to go backward this season

According to the graph presented by Amazon Web Services, during the free practice 1 at the Hungarian GP, Ferrari has lost an average time of 0.06 seconds since round one at Bahrain. While all the remaining teams have recorded an average speed gain.

Although, the Italian outfits have improved from the last season as they already secured two podiums this season at Monte Carlo and Silverstone. With the new car regulation to take force from next season, Ferrari will hope to close the gap with this year’s title contenders Red Bull and Mercedes.

Carlos Sainz expects rain at Hungaroring

Ferrari showed impressive pace all weekend at last race weekend in Silverstone. The Reds were on the verge of securing their first victory of the season although, in the end; they had to satisfy with P2.

However, during the free practice sessions at Budapest, the Maranello-based team has struggled for pace as compared to their rivals. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz prays for rain after a poor performance from Ferrari.

As quoted by the official Formula 1 website, when asked if he welcomed the rain at Hungaroring this weekend, Carlos Sainz replied: “I think I like it, first of all, and it should help. It should help everyone because the temperatures we were running in today make the Formula 1 cars and tyres very, very on the limit but hopefully a bit more to us, I wish, at least.”

The Spaniard who finished FP1 fourth but the evening practice session at P12 reckoned that the high temperatures have hampered the Ferrari performance.

“Yes, it was a bit of a strange one. I guess in FP1 we were quite happy with how everything went then FP2 was a bit of a weird one because the car didn’t feel any worse, or it didn’t feel particularly bad, it’s just that the others managed to be improved.” said the Spaniard.
