Potential 2021 Williams F1 Driver Lands in Yet Another Controversy After Degrading Latifi on Twitch

Dan Ticktum, one of the Formula 2 drivers that are contending for a seat in Williams next season, has found himself in yet another controversy.

Only this time, it had something to do with the current Williams F1 driver, Nicholas Latifi. The Carlin Racing driver was streaming on Twitch while playing Call of Duty: Warzone, during which he made fun of the Canadian F1 driver while over 1500 viewers were watching his stream.

Hence, considering that he publicly degraded a senior driver of the same team, there are significant chances that the Briton might have just fallen short of securing a full-time seat in F1. What’s more, it wouldn’t be a shock if Williams shows Ticktum the door as well.

What did the Williams development driver say during the stream?

While streaming on Twitch, Ticktum’s friend started singing the Scooby-Doo tune, only with certain changes to the lyrics. Soon, Ticktum, himself joined his friend and sang it too.

“Scooby-Doobie Doo Latifi is poo. Why does that still make me laugh?” he laughingly asked. Subsequently, one of his subscribers stated an obvious fact that set Ticktum off.

“I mean he’s in F1, you’re in F2…,” the Briton read the viewer’s message on the chat. Ticktum quickly replied to the statement. What’s more, he then kicked the subscriber out of his channel as well.

“He’s older than me, he paid to get there,” Ticktum added about Latifi. “Moron. Fu*king idiot. Go away, like I don’t want someone like that one my fu*king channel. Goodbye!”

Ticktum and his controversies

Ticktum is one of the fewest professional racing drivers to hold a controversial background in the sport. To fuel this claim, let’s consider an interesting incident. The Briton faced a 2-year ban from racing after an incident in the 2015 MSA Formula Championship.

So what really happened?

Well, during a race at Silverstone, Ticktum overtook several cars under safety-car conditions and deliberately crashed into his rival, Ricky Collard. This saw Ticktum being banned from motorsport.

And then, he returned to racing in 2017, and also found himself amongst the F2 grid in 2019 as a full-time driver. In his very next F2 season in 2020, he threatened to crash into another driver during a race at the very same Silverstone circuit.

“Next time that ***** tries a kamikaze move like that I’m going to crash with him!” he said. “I’m never going to give him that much respect ever again.”

Overall, amidst so many arguments surrounding Ticktum already, his latest comments on Latifi will do no good to his hopes of making it to F1. Hence, now the biggest question is, how are Williams going to react to this?
