Jason Donovan has been forced to pull out of tonight’s Dancing On Ice with back pains.

The singer and actor said: ‘I’ve had back pain the past couple of days and I’m under doctor’s orders to take it easy and sit this week out.

‘I’m resting up, I’ll be watching from home and cheering everyone on and I look forward to returning next week.’

Jason has been advised to rest by the show’s medical team and is planning to return for next week’s show. The programme’s rules permit one week’s bye for contestants.

The 52-year-old is the latest dancer to miss the show after taking medical advice.

Billie Shepherd pulled out of the show after suffering a head injury last week’s show. Contestants are only permitted one week’s bye and she missed the week before due to a family bereavement.

Denise Van Outen was rushed to A&E after a lift attempt with pro Matt Evers went disastrously wrong and she dislocated her shoulder. The injury later forced her out of the competition.

Graham Bell’s first professional partner Yebin Mok was hospitalised after suffering a horror injury on the ice back in January.

Rufus Hound also quit the show after testing positive for Coronavirus.

Jason was the first contestant to take to the ice on the series, scoring 25 in his first performance with professional partner Alexandra Schauman.

During musicals week, the 52-year-old performed a tribute to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert to the song Don’t Leave Me This Way.

Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Ashley Banjo and John Barrowman awarded the dance just 22 points.

It led host Holly Willoughby to blast the judges, saying ‘I have no idea what you were watching, but I loved that so much.’

Dancing on Ice continues this evening at 6pm on ITV.
