Comedian and presenter Jon Culshaw has declared becoming the leading man of Doctor Who his ‘dream job’ amid rumours he could replace Jodie Whittaker

It’s been rumoured that the actress, who plays the 13th iteration of the beloved sci-fi character, will be handing over the keys to the Tardis at the end of the next series.

While this remains unconfirmed by the BBC, speculation over who could take her place has gone into overdrive, with Kris Marshall and Michaela Coel being declared fan faves to lead the new adventures.

However, speaking on The Graham Norton Radio Show on Saturday, Jon has revealed that he would be up for taking the role should he get the call too.

‘That’s a call you know, I wouldn’t hesitate on that one, that’s for sure!,’ he told the host.

‘I think to be the Doctor is the kind of life that I would like.

‘Just to choose wherever you want in the universe, you know, maybe go to the Trappist System and see a setting red giant with five moons in the sky,’ he continued.

‘To see alien worlds, and go to any time period you want… I’d quite like that sort of life, so playing the Doctor would be a step towards that I think.’

It’s become somewhat of a tradition for Doctors to step down after three seasons of the show.

David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi – aka the 10th, 11th and 12th Doctors – all left at this benchmark.

The new series is still on its way at least, and this year Jodie will be joined by John Bishop, who was announced as the newest companion to join the team.

Doctor Who has yet to be given a return date by the BBC.
