‘I’m Still in Recovery’- Conor McGregor Reveals a Possible Timeline for His Return in a Charity Boxing Match

Conor McGregor suffered a gruesome ankle break at UFC 264. The Irishman lost the trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier subsequently. McGregor has undergone surgery since and is going through the rehab process currently. Fans and experts believe they won’t see him back in action before 2020.

However, the former two-division champion is eyeing a return in late 2021. But it is for a charity wheelchair boxing event. Many have suggested he participates in such an event in September. But McGregor doesn’t believe the timeline is right for him. Although he is down to participate on such an event, a later date will be more suitable for the Irish superstar.

Guys, the September date is too early for me. I am still in recovery. My docs/physical therapy team out here advice me to stay. I reckon late October at earliest. But maybe November/December too. It is hard to say at this time a concrete date. But I’m in! Wait for me please!

Reports surfaced online recently that McGregor will be back in action at the end of September and will take on comedian Al Foran in a wheelchair boxing match. But his team informed that those reports aren’t quite true as the former champ-champ is still under-recovery.

Conor McGregor will not be competing in a wheelchair boxing match for charity in September despite recent reports, his spokesperson Karen Kessler told ESPN. He is still healing from the broken leg he suffered at UFC 264.

However, McGregor does support the Irish Wheelchair Association and intends to get more involved with it after his recovery is completed, Kessler said. She added: “Those that want to express their support don’t need to give to a gofundme effort.”

McGregor supports the Irish wheelchair association and is supportive of their cause. So, he is willing to do a charity event. Also, it can cleanse his reputation a bit as he has been the center of harsh criticism lately for his antics after UFC 264.

When will Conor McGregor return to the UFC Octagon?

One shouldn’t expect McGregor to be back in action before 2022 in the UFC. He suffered one of the most gruesome injuries in the sport. It takes fighters a very long time to recover from those. So, his case shouldn’t be any different as well.

Also, fans expect him to fight Dustin Poirier once again when he eventually makes his return. But no timeline for that has been given yet. There are possibilities of other fights taking place there as well. When he eventually returns and who he faces, remains to be seen.
