Dancing On Ice 2021 have been having a nightmare keeping their cast – with Joe Warren Plant and Vanessa Bauer the latest stars forced to quit the series.

In a series full of accidents, scrapes and positive Covid tests, there are now six contestants still in the running, with this year the first time in the show’s history both reserve celebrities were called in to participate.

But what happened to Joe and Vanessa, who were favourites to be finalists come the end of the show’s run?

Here’s what we need to know…

Why have Joe-Warren Plant and Vanessa Bauer quit Dancing On Ice 2021?

On Friday, February 12, it was announced that Joe-Warren and Vanessa had tested positive for coronavirus, and would no longer be able to continue in the competition.

They will now be self-isolating for the next 10 days, as per government guidelines.

Following the announcement, Joe said: ‘I have loved every minute of being a part of Dancing On Ice and I am disappointed as I feel I had so much more to give and was working hard to perfect each performance.

‘Thank you so much to Vanessa for being a fantastic teacher and although its been cut short, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

‘Thank you to all the crew who have been brilliant and especially thanks to the other cast members, they have been hugely supportive and I wish them all the very best.’

Three-time DOI finalist Vanessa added: ‘Joe-Warren has been growing every week into such a talented skater and I’m so sad we won’t be able to show more of the great routines we had planned.

‘I am beyond proud and devastated, as we had so much more to show, he was the hardest working partner I’ve ever had.’

This is the first year since she started Vanessa will be missing from the finals – winning the show in 2018 with Jake Quickenden, coming second in 2019 with Love Island’s Wes Nelson, and also placing second in Perri Kiely last year.

Who has had to drop out of Dancing On Ice 2021 so far?

Denise Van Outen had to leave due to injury, after dislocating her shoulder ahead of week one’s performances. She skated in the debut show, doctors ruled her out of continuing further.

Olympian Amy Tinkler, who remains in the competition, was brought in to replace her.

Rufus Hound then tested positive for coronavirus after coming into contact with someone who had Covid-19. He was replaced by second and final reserve Matt Richardson, who was eliminated last week.

After getting a concussion from hitting her head during rehearsals, Billie Faiers was advised by doctors not to compete last week.

However, after being given a bye week already to mourn the death of her grandmother, rules state that she was unable to continue, and so she was forced to withdraw.

On Friday, it was announced that Emmerdale’s Joe and Vanessa had also tested positive for coronavirus, and so had to withdraw from the competition as they had to isolate.

On Sunday morning, ITV confirmed Jason Donovan would be absent after injuring his back. He has been given a bye and is expected to return next week.

Dancing On Ice continues tonight at 6pm on ITV.
