So James Acaster is in the upcoming Cinderella film and it’s a massive understatement to say it’s stirred the masses into spirals of joy.
The trailer for the Camila Cabello-starring musical dropped via Amazon Prime on Tuesday and featured comedian Acaster as one of three mice-turned-footmen, alongside Romesh Ranganathan and James Corden.
Camila plays downtrodden Cinderella, who spends her days in the basement of her home, making dresses under the label Ella, while her Stepmother (Idina Menzel) and ugly sisters lord it over her. Sounds pretty classic, right?
Meanwhile, King Rowan (Pierce Brosnan) and Queen Beatrice (Minnie Driver) throw a huge ball in a bid to find a wife for Prince Robert (Nicholas Galitzine). So far, so fairystyle.
Thanks to her Fairy Godmother (Billy Porter) and three lovable but clumsy footmen (aforementioned Corden, Ranganathan and Acaster) Cinderella gets to the ball, but her meeting with the prince doesn’t exactly go to plan. You know, glass slippers, midnight, that whole shebang…
While, sure, musicals are cool and all that, Acaster soon began trending on Twitter as excited punters spotted him in the trailer and demanded more, more, more screentime from the Taskmaster icon (who is said to have replaced John Mulaney).

It seemed more fans were gassed on Acaster and Ranganathan’s fleeting appearances than the top-billed names including Cabello and Brosnan, with one writing on Twitter: ‘Will watch this just for James Acaster and the two lines of dialogue they end up giving him.’
Echoing those same sentiments, another added: ‘I will literally only be watching the bits of this film that have James acaster in srry Amazon [sic].’
Many were demanding justice for Acaster, with some feeling Corden’s moment took away his shine: ‘James Acaster is in this as well, but you didn’t see him in the trailer because his face was covered by James Cordon.’
In fact, they dubbed it the Mike Wazowski treatment, from Monsters Inc.
And some, well some were feeling litigious: ‘I already know it’s definitely going to be the case, but if they gave james corden all of the lines for the footmen and james acaster and romesh only say like 3 words I’m suing. [sic]’

For others, they were sold on Acaster’s mere presence, as one mused: ‘Ok. When I heard James Corden was going to be in this I was like “Nah mate, not again–” BUT James Acaster in a musical? Yeah I’ll f**k with that.’
Cinderella is out on September 3 on Amazon Prime Video.
