Details about Doctor Who series 13 have been thin on the ground but we’ve finally been blessed with an influx of information about what to expect from Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall’s final episodes.

We’ve got specials coming in 2022, new cast members joining Team Tardis, and some returning villains.

The Beeb has finally blessed us with a trailer and some snippets of what’s set to come and basically, it looks immense.

We’ve also had former showrunners accidentally spilling the beans (Steven Moffat, we’re looking at you) and we can’t even be mad.

Of course, plenty of details are still being kept under wraps, with Chris teasing that it’s about to be the most ambitious series of his reign.

So he surely can’t blame us for having a look back at everything we know and seeing what else we can figure out.

What’s happened so far with the Doctor Who series 13 production?

After a delay due to Covid-19, filming finally began in November 2020

After an epic New Year episode, which saw the departure of Bradley Walsh (Graham) and Tosin Cole (Ryan), it was announced that Liverpudlian comic John would be joining Team Tardis as new character Dan.

It’s well known that a Doctor Who actor has never stayed past three series since the show was revived in 2005, so after series 12 aired, naturally rumours of Jodie’s departure began.

While her exit was confirmed months later, rumours about who will replace her are ongoing.

Jodie was spotted in some of the first snaps from series 13, giggling as she braved the rain on Barry Island Beach in South Wales.

Ever bubbly, she clearly didn’t let it faze her!

John was officially photographed on set, peeking out of the Tardis as Jodie was again spotted in fits of giggles.

Who can blame her?

The pair were seen shooting a nighttime scene at the famous Royal Albert Dock.

While some fans were convinced they’d spotted Donna Noble actress Catherine on set and believed she was gearing up to return, unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

A rep for Catherine told Metro.co.uk: ‘I can confirm Catherine is very much not in Liverpool and is not on Doctor Who set.’

One day!

We finally got to see the fam in action as the trailer for series 13 made its way to us.

While it didn’t give much away, fans were hyped to see some new content.

We also got an unexpected new cast member in Game Of Thrones star Jacob. Not much has been revealed about his character, but he definitely looks badass.

Hearkening back to the 80s and to Torchwood’s Miracle Day, Chris confirmed that series 13 will be all one story rather than the traditional episodic format.

Despite fan speculation, a source confirmed to Metro.co.uk that John was never meant to return as Captain Jack Harkness.

‘There were never any plans for John to return to Doctor Who. His appearance in the Christmas special was always planned to be a one off,’ they said.

After much speculation, it was confirmed that Jodie and Chris will exit in 2022 after three specials.

We will meet the 14th Doctor in autumn 2022, when Jodie’s Doctor regenerates.

Clearly a little out of practice, former showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed that the Weeping Angels, one of the most iconic villains, will be returning.

We’ll forgive you, Steven – as long as you don’t blink.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One in autumn.
