The Foo Fighters hit back at a picket by the controversial Westboro Baptist Church in Bonner Springs, Kansas on Thursday – with disco tunes about love.
Members of the church, known for its homophobic and hateful rhetoric, stood on the side of a busy road to protest the band’s concert.
Congregation members could be seen holding their infamous signs which featured messages such as ‘God Hates Your Idols’, ‘Free Will Is a Satanic Lie,’ and ‘God Hates Pride’.
The band arrived on the back of a rented truck to perform as their alter-egos the Dee Gees, with singer Dave Grohl saying: ‘Alright now, ladies and gentlemen, I got something to say.
‘Because you know what, I love you. The way I look at it is, I love everybody.
‘Isn’t that what you are supposed to do? Shouldn’t you just love everybody? You shouldn’t be hating. You know what you should be doing? You should be dancing!’
The group then launched into Bee Gees hit You Should Be Dancing, with Dave telling the church members he saw their ‘momma dancing’ to the song.
The Foo Fighters announced their new album, Hail Satan, in June, which sees them explore a disco sound and cover four classic Bee Gees tracks – Night Fever, Tragedy, You Should Be Dancing and More Than A Woman.
The group – consisting of Dave, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee – also recorded their own rendition of Andy Gibb’s single Shadow Dancing for the release.
The disc was released on July 17 in vinyl format and was sold for a limited time, with 12,000 copies pressed.
The band promoted their new album on social media, with lead singer Dave featuring in a video as he attempted his best falsetto vocal performance, akin to Bee Gees member Barry Gibb.

The members had previously covered You Should Be Dancing on Jo Whiley’s Sofa Session on Radio 2 in February this year, and revealed they’d chosen the song after discussing a recent Bee Gees documentary.
Dave explained: ‘I was like, “Why don’t we just do a Bee Gees song?” And someone was just like, “OK, how do you wanna do it?” And I said, “Well, let’s do it like the Bee Gees.”’
