It’s been a year since Carol Kirkwood’s iconic ‘doggers’ blunder on BBC Breakfast

And what a year it’s been (Picture: BBC)

My how fast time flies when you’re having fun – fun still laughing at the iconic moment Carol Kirkwood announced there were ‘doggers’ in the park she was reporting the weather live from.

A year has passed since that auspicious morning on the telly, when Carol was sharing her report with BBC Breakfast just before 8am when she mixed up the words ‘dog walkers’ and ‘joggers’. Happens to the best of at that hour, Kaz.

In the glorious clip, she said: ‘Greenwich Park is one of the oldest of the royal parks and look at it. Fabulous! The sun is beating down and we’ve seen lots of doggers.’

FYI, a dogger is a slang term for someone who enjoys having sexual activity in a public place, known as ‘dogging’. You know, should you not be up to date on that one.

Noticing her on-air blunder, she quickly corrected herself and went on: ‘Not lots of doggers, of course, lots of dog walkers and joggers around here, of course, this morning.’

Nice save.

Carol continued, not missing another beat: ‘The forecast for the week is actually continuing in this hot and humid theme. It won’t actually cool down until we get to the end of the week and increasingly there is the risk of thunderous showers.’

(Oh, good to know this time last year we were also having thunderous showers…)

BBC’s Scott Bryan reminded everyone of the glorious date for the diary, tweeting: ‘Happy one year anniversary to this iconic television moment,’ sharing the clip for posterity once more.

While his followers remarked the moment was ‘still hilarious’, another praised Carol’s expert recovery, noting: ‘It’s her recovery from it that is really impressive. A real pro.’

Rather heartbreakingly, many others noticed the stark contrast between the British summertime of last year, which saw the park’s fields brown. Due to some recent heinous wet weather that looks more at home in December than July, those fields are more likely lush and green right now (which is lovely, sure).

Still, while we’re all taking a walk across memory park, with the joggers and dog walkers, Carol has let this anniversary slip by without a public acknowledgment on Twitter.

We won’t be holding our breath, seeing as last year she took to Twitter to apologise to viewers for her slip-up, writing: ‘That will teach me to try and say joggers and dog walkers in the same sentence!!! Sorry!’

Never apologise for such gold, never ever.
