When Joe Keery burst onto the scene in 2016 as Steve Harrington in Stranger Things, fans quickly grew to love the character as he evolved from being a cocky jock to a caring member of the monster-fighting gang.
However, in addition to his witty one liners and heroic turns, one of the most iconic aspects of Steve is – undeniably – his incredible head of hair.
So how does one achieve a hairdo that seems to defy gravity, that fits in so well with the 1980s setting of the Netflix sci-fi show?
During a recent interview, Joe, 29, revealed how he maintains his impressive locks… and amid the recent celebrity shower-gate, it might come as quite a surprise.
In a new profile in GQ, it was stated that not only does Joe rarely wash his hair, but he also barely even touches it, except on the odd occasion when he pushes any fallen strands back up.
What’s more, the Free Guy star doesn’t go out of his way to have haircuts. Instead, when he does have a haircut, they ‘simply happen to him’. Oh, the life of a Hollywood star.

Joe’s bouffant hairstyle is so cherished that when he arrived at a Chanel event in September 2019 with an unforgettable bowl cut, numerous fans were devastated.
The actor recalled how ‘it didn’t go over well’ at the time, adding: ‘I saw some funny photos of it, and apparently I looked like a f**king idiot. But that’s okay. I think it’s good for everybody to look like an idiot at some point.’
Inevitably, Joe was inevitably approached to promote a hair care brand, with the actor offered a ‘bunch of money’.
However, he declined the offer, stating: ‘I think it would just be so lame for the majority of people. It would be a sellout move.’
Joe is set to return as Stranger Things’ Steve in season four of the hit show, which is due to drop in 2022.
