WWE star Bianca Belair reveals why she uses ‘super power’ hair as a weapon

WWE superstar Bianca Belair has described her hair as her ‘superpower’ to use against her rivals in the ring.

The SmackDown Women’s Champion, who will defend her gold against Sasha Banks in a huge WrestleMania 37 rematch at SummerSlam on August 21, sent fans wild when she used her braid to whip her opponent in the ring, and she’s continued to use it as part of her in-ring style.

She exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘That’s something that I’ve always wanted to – when people look at me and look at my braid, that’s my superpower, that’s my weapon.

‘I don’t want that being used against me. I definitely wanted to put out there that it’s my weapon, and if you touch it, it’s gonna backfire on you. You can’t use it against me, and that’s the way it’s been since I started wearing in 2017, 16?’

It was a tactic that worked well when she met Bayley inside Hell In A Cell back in June, and she wanted to use it so they could add another element to the story they were telling inside one of WWE’s most brutal matches.

‘I think we were on the same page with that. We wanted to be innovative and use the cell to our advantage and disadvantage but also just make it unique. I think we did that with the story that was told, the whole hair thing,’ she added.

‘Every time she grabbed my hair, I wanted it to set a tone that my hair is my weapon, it’s not to be used against me.

‘Every time she tried to use my hair I had something to come back with and it actually ended up backfiring on her. Just putting the message out there to not use my hair!’

It’s a unique twist to her in-ring game, and the EST of WWE is all about her unique presentation, right down the entirely custom made gear she wears every time she appears on-screen.

‘I just enjoy expressing myself through my gear. I’ve always enjoyed expressing myself through fashion. I’ve been that way since I was a little kid,’ she beamed. ‘I used to design our outfits for my track team. I just wanna be different, I wanna stand out and I just wanna throw every single piece of me into what I do.’

Bianca has told us all about her designs in the past, and the dedication she has to every area of her craft in WWE is admirable – and clearly paying off.

‘Some people see “working hard” in different ways. Some people say going to the ring and training is working hard, going to the gym and training is working hard,’ she added.

‘I think all of that is working hard, but I also think that making my own gear is a form of working hard because our image is so much a part of our success here.

‘When I look at my action figures and see posters and look back, I wanna say, “I made that gear”, and it all came from up here, and just trying to be different and unique, sticking to a theme and standing out.’

*WWE SmackDown airs Fridays at 1am on BT Sport 1.
