WWE SmackDown results, grades: Sasha Banks, Zelina Vega and Carmella decimate Bianca Belair

WWE ramped up the SummerSlam heat on SmackDown this week as Sasha Banks stood tall over Bianca Belair.

The Legit Boss and the EST of WWE met in a contract signing to close Friday night’s show and it was every bit as eventful as wrestling fans have come to expect from these segments.

Sonya Deville was overseeing proceedings, with both the Women’s Champion and her challenger going back and forth in a war of words just 8 days away from their title showdown in Las Vegas.

Banks actually called out Belair for using her hair as a weapon back in April at WrestleMania 37, and later insisted she needed witnesses for the signing.

Despite Deville already being in the ring for that exact purpose, Carmella and Zelina Vega made their way to the ring and once the title match was official, Bianca tried to overcome the numbers game as a brawl broke out.

Eventually, the numbers game became too much as the three women took control and Sasha was able to make a point at the champ’s expense.

After taking the chance at a cheap shot, she eventually locked in the Bank Statement using Bianca’s own hair against her to keep the hold in tight while on the table.

She posed with the title to bring the show to a close, adding some real heat to their highly anticipated WrestleMania rematch next weekend.

Baron Corbin steals the Money In The Bank briefcase, Roman Reigns roasts John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura wins the Intercontinental Championship

WWE threw a lot at SmackDown this week, and almost all of it hit – especially with the opening segment which saw John Cena and Roman Reigns trading verbal jabs like the best of them.

The Hollywood star branded his rival a D-head, D-bag and d-isappointment, trashing the Tribal Chief until he made his way down to the ring.

Cena insisted Roman has still been backed by WWE despite failure after failure, before Reigns pointed to the former world champion being back doing the same act.

He even brutally referenced his ex Nikki Bella, insisting she wasn’t as satisfied as Cena with two decades of ‘missionary position’.

Cena wasn’t done though, claiming Roman nearly ruined Seth Rollins and drove Dean Ambrose away, before hinting he could even do a CM Punk by leaving with the Universal Title and blowing a kiss on his way out.

The opening match of the night saw Shinsuke Nakamura beat Apollo Crews for the Intercontinental Title in a good match, as disappointed as it is to see the former champ drop the gold with a bit of a whimper.

The Street Profits got a measure of revenge over Alpha Academy in a decent but far-too-brief match which saw Angelo Dawkins pin Chad Gable, at least giving some protection to Otis.

“Edge it’s not 2014 anymore. Times have changed. At SummerSlam, I will not hesitate and I will not hold back. I will stomp your head into this mat. If that puts you out for good, then so be it!” – @WWERollins#SmackDown pic.twitter.com/mDklOn1KZC

Elsewhere, Seth Rollins let fans in Tulsa know that Edge wasn’t at tbe arena, and instead he shared a video package highlighted the Rated R Superstar’s accomplishments.

However, for each one, there was footage of the Architect doing the same as he reiterated his claim that he’s better than his rival.

He referenced their almost-moment from 2014 when he didn’t follow through with a stomp onto the Money In The Bank briefcase, and promised not to hesitate this time as he’ll end Edge’s career at SummerSlam.

Back to the tag team ranks, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode faced the Mysterios just over a week before the latter get a shot at The Usos at SummerSlam.

The match was fun, with Rey’s experience helping his son win after Jimmy and Jey tried to distract him.

However, it also further sowed the seeds of a rivalry between the pair when Dominik eventually snaps – even if Rey insisted this wasn’t going to happen.

Finally, Baron Corbin asked everyone in the arena for at least $1,000 to help him get back on his feet, but Kevin Owens came out and challenged him to a match.

The stipulation was that he’d give the down-on-his-luck star $1k himself if he could win, but a victory for KO means Corbin has to stop begging.

The match was a tonne of fun (Corbin continues to be criminally underrated by some fans), with Owens getting a rollup for the win, then following up that moment with a Stunner.

Backstage, Corbin stole Big E’s Money In The Bank briefcase and bolted from the arena, setting up a storyline which could do wonders for both men.

*WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
