John Boyega has said that starring in a Bridgerton-style period drama is ‘definitely in his future’, expressing his excitement over throwing on ‘high boots and hats’.
Earlier this year, John took part in an actors roundtable alongside Regé-Jean Page, who rose to fame as Simon Bassett, the Duke of Hastings in the first season of Bridgerton.
When asked what Hollywood role he would love to play, John replied: ‘I’m trying to get that Bridgerton money, man. I need to wear them skintights. I need to be the new guy up in there.’
In a new interview, the 29-year-old continued to share his interest in taking on a period role, saying that while it might not involve a role specifically in Bridgerton, he’s definitely up for it, horse-riding and all.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he said: ‘I think it might not be that show, but I think I definitely have a future in wearing high boots and hats, and speaking more of a pronounced pronunciation. That is definitely in my future.’
The Small Axe actor added that he already has horse-riding skills in his repertoire, as it was something he had to learn for the third film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

‘I am a horse rider too so, c’mon man,’ he said, saying that he learned to ride horses ‘specifically for The Rise of Skywalker because those horses that we rode at the end, we needed to learn. So, you know, some horse riding, a little bit of charm, c’mon!’
After watching John gallop over on his horse in the Star Wars blockbuster, we can definitely picture him riding across a moor at sunrise in a frilly old-fashioned shirt. Let’s make it happen!
Earlier this month, Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen confirmed that the drama had resumed filming for season two after the production had to be shut down due to a positive Covid-19 test.

Speaking to Variety, Chris said: ‘‘We are back underway. We had to delay because of Covid, but we’re back in it. Right now I’m in post [production], editing our first couple episodes, which are looking great.’
While Regé-Jean is not returning for the second season, Phoebe Dynevor will be reprising her role as Daphne Bridgerton, recently saying that she’s ‘not embarrassed’ about her family watching the show’s sex scenes.
Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix.
