Dara Ó Briain is set to host a brand new gameshow on Channel 4, where contestants could have the chance to win a whopping £1million.

Dara, 49, has appeared on several TV shows throughout his career, having hosted Mock the Week since 2005.

The comedian’s next role will see him present an entirely new gameshow, having previously hosted It’s a Family Affair on RTÉ Television.

The programme commissioned by Channel 4 is called One & Six Zeros and will involve participants starting off the show with the £1m jackpot already in the bag.

As the show progresses, the contestants will have to answer questions on general knowledge, which can result in them losing money if they get the answers wrong, RadioTimes.com revealed.

‘Each right answer locks in a zero from the prize fund and it could very quickly go from £1,000,000 to £100!’ Channel 4 stated.

Working in teams of three, the people who appear on the show will have the chance to use a lifeline, which will allow them to swap a question for a new one if they think they might answer the original question wrong.

However, swapping a question will result in the team experiencing some sort of penalty.

When they come to the third question, the team will be reduced from three contestants to two.

Further down the line, only one player will be left standing for the last two questions.

In a statement, Dara said he was ‘delighted’ to be the host of the new show, which doesn’t yet have an air date.

‘It should be funny and tense and you, at home, will definitely think you could have done better than the contestants. Plus, I get to keep any of the money they don’t win! I think that’s the deal, I didn’t read the small print,’ he joked.

From 2010 to 2014, Dara hosted The Apprentice: You’re Fired!, the show which aired after episodes of The Apprentice, where eliminated contestants were interviewed.

The following year, presenting duties for the programme were taken over by comedian Jack Dee.

One & Six Zeros will air on Channel 4.
