Kodak Black sets up $100k scholarship in honour of Parkland shooting victim Meadow Pollack
Kodak Black has revealed he has set up a scholarship in honour of the victims of the mass shoooting in Parkland, Florida, on the third anniversary.
The rapper, 23, visited Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, where 17 victims were killed in the mass shooting in 2018, to announce the $100,000 (£72,000) scholarship.
The fund was put together in memory of Meadow Pollack, an 18-year-old student who lost her life and who was a big fan of Kodak, according to his attorney.
He told the 100-strong crowd at the socially distanced tribute: ‘They [were] young and none of them deserved this. They wasn’t in this life to be killed.
‘Meadow Pollack, she’s so beautiful, but the situation is bigger than Meadow Pollack. It’s about all of us. It’s about all the other kids. It’s about the whole school. It’s about all of Broward [County].
‘I’m going to help and I hope me setting up this scholarship will make a difference for something. I just want to make a positive impact for this community.’
It comes after the ZEZE star was released from prison after his sentence was commuted by Donald Trump a day before the end of his presidency, where he has been serving a 46-month sentence for firearm charges.
Kodak’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, told People: ‘Kodak was very touched by the incident and wanted to do something in Meadow Pollack’s honour.’
The scholarship is for Southeastern University Law School which Meadow’s brother Hunter is currently attending and will be available to students pursuing careers in criminal justice and prison reform.
The recipients will be chosen by a university board based on a combination of merits, grades and an essay.
After announcing the scholarship, Kodak was hugged by Meadow’s brother, Hunter, and the pair lit candles for the Parkland victims together.
