“He Was Older”: Adrien Broner Laughs at Manny Pacquiao’s Performance Against Yordenis Ugas

Manny Pacquiao lost for the eighth time in his 26 years long career. Pacquiao lost to the WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas. Ugas connected with his jab early on and added a right hook to his attack to tilt the judge’s scorecards in his favor.

Adrien Broner, Manny Pacquiao’s 61st victim was in attendance during the fight. There seemed to be no outward disdain between the two fighters. Broner even went to Pacquiao’s locker room to wish the former champ luck.

In an interview after the fight, the interviewer asked Broner about his thoughts on the fight. Broner initially laughed it off, as he took pictures with fans. “It was a great fight. Before the fight, I went(to his locker room) and I told him, just believe in you. You got what it takes to beat him, and I hugged him, hugged him expeditiously tight.”

Another interviewer then asked him whether Manny Pacquiao looked as if he was older tonight. Broner responded saying, “No…. the honest answer is he was ‘Older’” After which Broner and the reporter started laughing.

Adrien Broner also felt that Errol Spence Jr. would have been too much for Manny Pacquiao to handle. Broner is good friends with the undefeated champ who pulled out of the Pacquiao fight owing to a torn retina. Broner confirmed that Spence is doing well and is on the road to recovery.

Manny Pacquiao vs Yordenis Ugas

Manny Pacquiao started off strong in the fight, moving freely and measuring up his opponent. He won the first couple of rounds purely based on his activity. Yordenis Ugas worked his lead jab during the start of the fight, not dealing too much damage on Pacquiao.

Pacquiao seemed to slow down and stiffen as the bout progressed. In the post-match interview, Pacquiao said he felt stiffness in his legs and could not move properly. Ugas capitalized and landed more punches overall and was out striking the Filipino senator for 10 rounds out of the 12.

In the end, Pacquiao slowed down and failed to deal any significant damage to the Cuban. Yordenis Ugas won the bout on the judge’s scorecard and successfully defended his WBA belt for the first time.
