Netflix has unveiled the very first look at John Cho in the live action take on the classic Japanese anime Cowboy Bebop.

The actor was suited up and sporting lovely longer hair in the official pics from the series which seems to promise a faithful take on the animation.

John plays Spike Spiegel, a chain-smoking bounty hunter – or Cowboy – who along with his rag-tag band of pals travel the galaxy hunting down the most dangerous criminals.

We were also treated to first glimpses at his co-stars Mustafa Shakir as police officer Jet Black, and Daniella Pineda as fellow bounty hunter Faye Valentine. Oh, and Ein the data dog.

There was no sign of Ed in any of the official stills, but here’s hoping it’s being held back as a nice surprise.

The series, by Shinchiro Watanabe and Keiko Nobumoto, was released in 1998. Director Watanabe acted as a consultant for the live action series while original composer Yoko Kanno has returned to the Bebop universe to provide music.

Known for its wild plots and thrilling fight scenes, it will be interesting to see how it translates into live action.

Cowboy Bebop started out as a TV show before it was adapted to a manga, then made into a movie in 2001.

Netflix’s adaptation is set to run for 10 episodes with the first two penned by Christopher Yost, the screenwriter on Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok.

Speaking to iMDB at the Oscars last year, John teased fans were in for a ‘tremendous’ series.

He shared: ‘It’s gonna be really unique as far as the visual elements and story elements.

‘I don’t know how to put it, it’s its own thing. It hardly fits in any other category. It’s tremendous. I’m really proud of it.’

Cowboy Bebop lands November 19 on Netflix.
