Darren Till Details Down Chess Match He Had With Robert Whittaker in Their Fight
UFC middleweight, Darren Till is set to return to action next weekend as he takes on Derek Brunson. Till last fought Robert Whittaker last year and lost a razor-close split decision. However, the striking battle between the duo was nothing short of phenomenal and fans enjoyed every bit of it.
Recently, Till sat down for an interview with ESPN MMA. He described his fight with Whittaker as a chess match. ‘The Gorilla’ detailed how the fight unfolded and the tricks both men used to trap the other.
“I am trying to see what he does. I am trying to move a shoulder, move something and see,” said Till. “I am not looking at Robert Whittaker’s eyes, I am looking like there,” he added.
“And I am trying to see what these mechanisms do. So, I do something okay right. I know everytime I do that, he does that right. Next time I do that something’s coming to catch him. I don’t waste shots. Sometimes if people watch the UFC, you’ll see a guy I swear to god and I love it. I have one of them,” Till said further.
Darren Till says there is no point in wasting energy inside the Octagon
Till believes UFC fights are high tempo and it is silly on any fighter’s part to waste any sort of energy. So, he himself doesn’t throw unnecessary shots and waits to land the perfect one when needed.

“You know any energy you waste in that Octagon John, under the bright blue lights, when you’re walking me, your energy is gone straight away. For five rounds you need to be fit, you need to have energy. And there’s guys throwing front kicks there for fun. You’re wasting energy, stop it,” Till explained further.
His fight against Brunson is very important in terms of the standing of the middleweight division. With a good win, Till has the chance to leapfrog Whittaker to getting a title shot. If he can do the same, remains to be seen.
