Amanda Serrano Defeats Yamileth Mercado, Does Not Want Katie Taylor Next

Unified champion Amanda Serrano emerged as the brawler against Yamileth Mercado tonight. She defended titles stunningly in the co-main event via unanimous decision and added another feather to her legendary cap. However, she denied a potential scrap against Katie Taylor in the coming days.

While Taylor vs Serrano would have been a blockbuster bout, the featherweight titlist didn’t seem ready for it yet. That said, she earned a big win tonight along with the biggest payday of her fighting career, reportedly. Mercado was a prominent rival, and Serrano proved her worthy by beating her in a high-voltage bout.

Despite her sheer in-ring aggressiveness, Serrano didn’t lose the technical essence that ultimately helped her out spark the Mexican opposition. However, Mercado didn’t let it go easy. That said, Mercado found success in the later stage of round three which continued till round five. However, she seemed weary as the fight continued from that point. Amanda Serrano then displayed her experience. She didn’t rush for a stoppage and continued pressing her rival.

By the end, Serrano was the better woman, bagging 97-33, 98-22, and 99-91 in all three cards. Already an elite, Serrano’s historic title defense unlocked her next level of legacy, leaving many doors open for the future.

What’s next for Amanda Serrano?

The WBC, WBO IBO champion can continue to defender her titles. Since Katie Taylor seems to be out of her radar, it’s hard t predict when we see her next. Meanwhile, the seven-division champion is already in the books and has a stellar resume of 41-1-1 with 30 KOs under her name.
