Naga Munchetty has been celebrated for her ‘unflappable’ work on BBC Breakfast by landing an award for her efforts.

The TV host and journalist was acknowledged by Eastern Eye’s Arts, Culture & Theatre Awards on Wednesday, praising her continued work on the morning television programme.

They wrote: ‘The @EasternEye Award for Best Presenter is awarded to [Naga] for BBC Breakfast. Naga Munchetty is a much admired and accomplished journalist and broadcaster renown for her calmness, fairness and unflappability. Congratulations!’

Sharing the announcement, she added: ‘An honour – Thank you very much!’

On top of working on BBC Breakfast, Naga has also expanded to Radio 5 Live, working three days a week in the mid-morning slot from 10am to 1pm.

Over the course of the coronavirus outbreak, Naga has been consistently praised for her interviews with government ministers in charge of curbing the virus, and their ever-changing policies.

Earlier this month, she made Nadhim Zahawi, Under-Secretary of State for COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment ‘do the math’ about his plans live on air.

Last week, she also criticised Home Office Minister Victoria Atkins over the hotel quarantine standards put in place.

The quarantine scheme, which was introduced on Monday, means that anyone arriving in the UK from a ‘red list’ of locations will need to self-isolate for 10 days in accommodation approved by the government.

However, people are still allowed out for fresh air or for cigarettes, something that other countries with enforced quarantine like Australia have banned.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
