Demi Lovato has revealed more about the lasting effects of her 2018 overdose, which caused three strokes and a heart attack.

The singer, 28, will share an in-depth account of the darkest time in her life in her upcoming documentary, Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil.

Speaking at a Television Critics Association panel, she told People that she has been left with many lasting reminders of her near-fatal overdose.

She explained: ‘I was left with brain damage, and I still deal with the effects of that today.

‘I don’t drive a car, because I have blind spots on my vision, and I also for a long time had a really hard time reading.

‘It was a big deal when I was able to read out of a book, which was like two months later because my vision was so blurry.’

Demi added: ‘I dealt with a lot of the repercussions and I feel like they are still there to remind me of what could happen if I ever get into a dark place again.

‘I’m grateful for those reminders, but I’m so grateful that I was someone that didn’t have to do a lot of rehabbing. The rehabbing came on the emotional side.’

She admitted that she took some positives out of the ‘painful journey’: ‘Everything had to happen in order for me to learn the lessons that I learned.’

The upcoming film, which will air on YouTube, will chart the period in her life when she relapsed after six years of sobriety and was rushed to hospital after overdosing at her home in Los Angeles.

Demi was in hospital for two weeks following the incident, then checking into an in-patient rehab to continue her recovery.

Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil will premiere on YouTube on March 23.
